PR pro starts first-ever Twitter chat focused on Hispanics

July 6, 2010

A Hispanic PR professional is launching a monthly Twitter chat geared specifically toward practitioners who target, work with or are Hispanic.

Andy Checo, PR account manager at The Vidal Partnership in New York, said he got the idea to start the chat when he saw fragmentation within the Hispanic PR community.

“I noticed a void when it comes to addressing the particular needs of Hispanic PR practitioners and those impacted by our work,” he said.

Checo, a member of the PRSA Technology Professional Interest Section, said he hopes that the chat will inspire discussion of best practices in the Hispanic community.

“My goal is for #hprchat to become a forum where industry leaders can engage in conversation,” he said, adding that he anticipates journalists, bloggers and PR pros alike will come together. “I also hope for many to get involved and participate as guest moderators.”

The first Hispanic Twitter Chat will commence on Wednesday from 8 to 9:30 p.m. (EDT), with Checo (@andycheco) as moderator.

Participants can follow the chat by using the #hprchat hashtag on Twitter, or by entering the tag on Twitter chat sites like Tweetchat.com or Tweetgrid.com.

Additional 2010 dates include Aug. 4, Sept. 1, Oct. 6, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1. The conversations will center on current topics of interest to the Hispanic PR community.
