Coca-Cola CEO Sets Example for Corporate Apologies

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published back in August, Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent did not explicitly say “sorry” for the company funding questionable obesity research, but his words and tone still offered lessons for executives facing public criticisms, MarketWatch wrote.

Coca-Cola came under fire after revelations that it had financially supported a nonprofit organization, the Global Energy Balance Network, that appears to favor exercise over diet to treat obesity.

In the op-ed, titled “Coca-Cola: We’ll Do Better,” Kent addressed the backlash: “I am disappointed that some actions we have taken to fund scientific research and health and well-being programs have served only to create more confusion and mistrust,” he wrote.
