It is the rule: Every speaker, even the president of the United States, must be introduced before beginning a speech. Of course, the president’s introduction is brief: “Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the United States.”
That is because everybody knows the president, and because the people came to hear the president, not the introducer.
But every other speaker, without exception, must be introduced in some detail, even though the audience knows who is to speak, the topic and the reason for the speech.
