Leaders Learning From Leaders: Giving Back and Paying Forward

December 1, 2017

As esteemed Harvard Business School professor Rosabeth Moss Kantor once said, “Leaders are more powerful role models when they learn than when they teach.”

We all know the type: professionals who create curiosity cultures in their workplaces. They continually ask questions with an earnest desire to discover, and encourage perpetual inquisitiveness that inspires teams to think differently.

I started to wonder about the leadership mindsets of successful PR professionals, and what advice my peers had received that stuck with them and shaped who they are today. I realized that sharing our inspirations brings us closer together as colleagues and professionals.

My grandfather was a Methodist preacher who instilled many life lessons in me when I was very young. A favorite that I often quote is his “6 Ps” in business and life: “Prior Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.” I venture that this advice rings as true for others as it does for me daily.
