Addressing Cybersecurity; Introducing the New PRSay

June 1, 2016

There’s never a shortage of cybersecurity-related headlines to choose from as we compile Issues & Trends, PRSA’s e-newsletter, each day.

This is a concern facing every organization today. According to the World Economic Forum’s 2016 Global Risk Report, company leaders consider cyberattacks as the greatest hazard to doing business in the United States. On May 17, SEC Chair Mary Jo White said that cybersecurity is the biggest risk facing the U.S. financial system, “one of the frankest assessments yet of the threat to Wall Street from digital attacks,” as a Reuters report put it.

To spotlight practical ways that PR professionals can help address the possibilities of a data breach and communicate proactively on the subject, Theresa Payton, the first female to serve as White House Chief Information Officer, is delivering the keynote presentation at the PRSA 2016 International Conference on Oct. 24 in Indianapolis.

“It is no longer a question of ‘if’ the organizations for which we work will be a victim of a data breach, DOS attack or other cyberattack — it is a matter of ‘when,’” Mark McClennan, APR, PRSA’s 2016 Chair, said in a statement on May 12. “PR professionals play a key role in defending brand reputation, training employees about these risks and quickly communicating information to key stakeholders in the event of an incident. Theresa will provide Conference attendees with insights and tactics that can help organizations improve their cyber profile.”

Payton joins pioneering U.S. Astronaut and Navy Test Pilot Scott Kelly as a speaker during the Conference.
