Play Ball: John Blake of the Texas Rangers Talks PR and the Big Leagues

August 1, 2014

John Blake grew up in Massachusetts as a Red Sox fan, and baseball was always his favorite sport to watch. “When I was in high school, I had no idea sports PR jobs existed, and I wanted to work for the state department or a similar vocation,” he says. During college, he began working in the sports sector at Georgetown, and after graduation, the school “took a chance on a 22 year old and I became the youngest Division I sports information director in the country.”

Blake is now the executive vice president of communications of the Texas Rangers. Since 2008, he’s overseen all of the club’s communications efforts, including media and player relations, broadcasting, social media outreach and publications.
