The basic purpose of Xerox sponsorship of "The Rochester Idea-- A Public Campaign to Improve the Community"--was to reinforce the company's image as a vital part of the community, in which Xerox maintains its largest employee population, and as a resource for constructive change. The function of the campaign was to collect ideas from people in all walks of life from school children to the city architects--and to demonstrate that the transition from idea to action very often involves little more than the enthusiasm of ordinary people guided by professional know-how.
