2006 Silver Anvil Award Winner – Internal Communications – Business (more than 10,000 employees)
To allow Caterpillar Inc. to offer competitive healthcare benefits for the long term and remain profitable, the company developed a new plan design that increased employee cost sharing and encouraged employees to become more effective healthcare consumers. And internal change management team was charged with effectively implementing the new plan and preventing a drop in employee engagement. Adding to its challenge, Caterpillar was in the midst of union contract negotiations and reporting record revenues. Not only was the plan rolled out successfully, employee engagement actually increased four percentage points during time employees were learning of the change.
