PRSA National Volunteer Commitment Form



Every year, dedicated volunteers step forward to contribute their time and expertise to the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Serving as a National volunteer is an opportunity to lead, share your expertise, and contribute not only to PRSA, but to the entire public relations profession. PRSA greatly appreciates your dedication to our organization - an organization that you make possible through your dedication.

We greatly value all of our volunteers, and want the volunteer experience to be as satisfying as possible for all members of our team. To help make this happen, we've set forth below the roles, responsibilities, and legalities associated with volunteering, and ask that each PRSA National volunteer read and agree with this volunteer commitment form.

We hope that you'll find your service to be fulfilling and rewarding, and look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead.

  • Volunteer Conduct and Service. Volunteers are expected to represent PRSA to others with professionalism and courtesy and shepherd the resources of PRSA responsibly. Volunteers are asked to not contact organizations or individuals on behalf of the Society unless given express authorization to do so. PRSA accepts the service of all volunteers with the understanding that such service is at the sole discretion of the Society. You agree that PRSA may at any time, for whatever reason, decide to terminate your volunteer relationship with PRSA.
  • Intellectual Property. You assign to PRSA all rights, title and interest in and to any information or material developed, conceived or created by you as part of your volunteer service to the Society, including any and all materials subject to copyright, with the exception of information and materials submitted for Tactics, Strategist, and PRSA National Professional Development sessions, which will be covered under separate agreements.

    Why?  PRSA volunteers often work collectively or individually to create work intended for the benefit of PRSA through committees, task forces, or as individuals.  For example, PRSA’s Strategic Plan is written by a group of PRSA volunteers and staff.  For PRSA to benefit from such work it needs to hold the relevant copyrights so that it can freely use the work as may be necessary.  In other cases PRSA volunteers may bring to PRSA materials that they already own – for example, chapters of books that they have previously written and published.  In those cases they may wish to retain rights in such material, which is why PRSA may work out individual agreements as needed to allow them to retain ownership.
  • Confidentiality. In connection with your PRSA service, you may be given or have access to the confidential information of PRSA or third parties ("Confidential Information"). Confidential Information is all information that PRSA considers to be confidential or proprietary information of PRSA or third party sources. You agree that you will not disclose or permit to be disclosed any Confidential Information, and that you will not appropriate or in any fashion replicate any Confidential Information without the prior written consent of PRSA
  • Conflict of Interest. All volunteers of PRSA must act at all times in the best interests of PRSA and not for personal or third-party gain or financial enrichment. When encountering potential conflicts of interest, you must disclose the potential conflict to the Society and, as required, remove yourself from all discussion and action on the matter. When in doubt as to whether a potential conflict may exist, ask PRSA’s Vice President of Public Relations.
  • Release. You assume full and complete responsibility for any personal injury and/or property damage sustained or caused by you during your participation as a volunteer. In addition, you hereby release, hold harmless and covenant not to file suit against PRSA, its employees, agents, sponsors, Board members or affiliates, in relation to any and all loss, liability or claims you may have arising out of your service as a volunteer.

You acknowledge and agree that your selection for service to PRSA and the opportunities made available to you by serving PRSA constitute consideration for entering into this Agreement, the receipt and sufficiency of which you hereby acknowledge.
