Tips for successful internship programs:

o Have a plan.
Internships should give students real-world experience. Think carefully about the projects you’ll assign. Make time to explain the assignment, track the student’s progress and hold them accountable for their deliverables.

o Treat them like employees.
Give interns a formal job interview, set expectations and establish a defined reporting structure. At the end of the internship, conduct an exit interview.

o Provide experience.
Invite interns to meetings and training programs. Let them see what the profession is really like.
