Inside PRSA’s Travel and Tourism Professional Interest Section

More than 300 attendees made their way to Tampa on June 8–11 for this year’s PRSA Travel and Tourism Conference, titled “Unlocking the PR Treasure Chest: Keys to Successful Integrated Communications, Content Creation and Creativity.”

With a 98 percent approval rating, participants left the Sunshine State engaged, inspired and more knowledgeable about the trends and topics impacting the travel and tourism industry. This year’s conference included 101 new attendees as well as the first-ever master track for senior practitioners.

In addition to engaging industry-specific roundtables, 50 speakers gave presentations and shared best practices, tips and successful case studies over the four-day period. A key draw of the conference, and what differentiates it from many others, continues to be the number of highly respected travel journalists who participate each year, offering practitioners the opportunity to meet and interact with key media.

In this issue of Tactics, we invite you to learn more about PRSA’s Travel and Tourism Professional Interest Section and our board members. If you are a  professional in the travel, tourism or hospitality sectors and are not currently a member of our Section, then we encourage you to join our network, which is more than 650 strong.

We’ve already started planning for next year’s conference, scheduled for June 14-17 in Lexington, Ky. We also offer year-round learning opportunities through Travel and Tourism Section-sponsored brown bags and webinars. As a PRSA member since 1997, a Travel and Tourism Section member since 1998, a Travel and Tourism Section board member since 2008 and now the 2014 Section chair, I’m amazed at the talent, dedication and creativity within the travel and tourism sector. I’m inspired by all that it has given to PRSA, the Section and to me personally.

In addition to being exceptional communicators, I believe that travel and tourism practitioners are incredibly fun and generous, and I consider myself blessed to work in a profession with so many talented colleagues and friends.
