Philadelphia, Here We Come

October 2, 2013

We’re counting down to the PRSA 2013 International Conference in Philadelphia on Oct. 26-29.

This year, we’re looking forward to everything that the Conference has to offer, including hearing the latest from the 150-plus workshop leaders and networking with PR professionals from across the country. And there are the General Session speakers: social media expert Brian Solis, first African-American female combat pilot Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour and Room to Read founder John Wood.

The Tactics team will be in Philadelphia covering as much as we can while making excuses to go out and see the city. Look for our daily updates on, on our Twitter feed (@PRSAtactics) and in Issues & Trends. In addition, PRSA will have a dedicated Conference channel with news and highlights at

To prepare for the Conference, we break from tradition with our Profiles in PR feature this month. Instead of the usual single profile, we talked with two Philadelphia-based PR professionals who have key roles in putting together the Conference. Managing Editor Amy Jacques interviewed Erin Allsman, APR, International Conference host committee chair, and Danielle Cohn, vice president of marketing and communications for the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Meanwhile, if you see me in Philadelphia, then please do say hello.

On Sept. 18, PRSA announced the national rollout of an MBA-Level Strategic Communications Course.  Here are more details via the PRSA news release:

Building on last year’s successful pilot program at five leading business schools, PRSA announced three schools that will offer the course during the 2014–2015 academic year.

The schools are: Syracuse University, which will offer the course via a partnership between the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Whitman School of Management, Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University and Opus College of Business at University of St. Thomas.

For more details about the program, as well as a new white paper on strategic communications at the MBA level, visit the PRSA newsroom.
