About Our Chapter

PRSA’s National Capital Chapter (NCC) is the world’s largest Chapter, with just over 1,100 members. The Chapter’s geographical area covers the metro-DC area, which includes the District of Columbia, plus suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia.

With 25 committees to join and dozens of events annually, PRSA-NCC is the essential network for practitioners at all levels, from all types of organizations in the Washington region. Monthly professional development workshops range from two-hour morning sessions to six-hour seminars. The Independent Public Relations Alliance (IPRA) is one of the country’s largest professional groups for independent PR practitioners. The News Professionals committee offers young practitioners professional development and networking opportunities geared specifically to the rising professional. PRSA-NCC also helps supports five Public Relations Student Society of America Chapters — American University, George Mason University, Howard University, Hood College and the University of Maryland.

PRSA-NCC advances the profession through its Ethics initiatives by actively promoting adherence to the Society’s Code of Professional Standards, by addressing the key issues, offering educational presentations, and serving as a “go-to” resource for ethical issues for chapter members.

PRSA-NCC firmly supports the achievement of Universal Accreditation by its members, and it conducts one of the best Accreditation "prep" courses in the country. Accreditation support includes a range of review and examination preparation support, including group classes, individual mentoring, and local administration of Readiness Review panels. Approximately 15 percent of the Chapter’s members are Accredited. The Chapter also promotes the value of APR to employers in the region.

In addition to its regular programming, NCC also has an active social media presence through its chapter blog, and LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter groups.
