“The Great Outdoors”

Outdoor pursuits and adventure travel are becoming increasingly desired and lucrative segments of the travel market. Be it rural or urban, almost anyone can offer unique experiences as part of their product mix. The real question is how do best create and position your product offerings to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts? In this session we will talk to editors of outdoor publications to learn what trends and storylines they are following today, get insight form them on how best to position your product offering to appeal to their audiences and learn how to get your story ideas in front of their readers.

Jen Murphy
Jen Murphy is a freelance writer and editor based in Boulder, Colorado. She covers a mix of topics including fitness and nutrition, food and wine and adventure travel and luxury travel. She writes the weekly “What’s Your Workout” column for the Wall Street Journal and contributes regularly to Outside, Conde Nast Traveler, Departures, Vogue.com, Travel & Leisure, Dorado and Men’s Journal. Jen spent eight years working at Food & Wine magazine and served as the deputy editor of AFAR magazine. She is an adjunct professor at New York University and is the editor of the Wildsam New England Road Trip Field Guide and The Yoga (Man)ual. She consults on content for travel companies including TravelEnvy and Exclusive Resorts. She staunchly believes print journalism will always be relevant and hopes she will always be referred to as a journalist, rather than an “influencer.”

Everett Potter is the editor of Everett Potter’s Travel Report and a contributor to National Geographic Traveler, Snow and Forbes.com. He was a longtime columnist for The New York Times Syndicate, USA Today, USA Weekend, SmartMoney and Ski and his work has appeared in such publications as Outside, The Wall Street Journal, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Robb Report, The Washington Post and ForbesLife.
